لا يمكن أن نجزم أن البهاق يتم علاجه بشكل فعلي بزيت الزيتون، ولكن هناك دراسة أجريت عام 2019 في السودان من خلال أخذ عينة من عشرة مصابين بمرض البهاق، واستخدم زيت الزيتون على الذراع اليسرى، لجميع المصابين قبل كل جلسة بالأشعة فوق البنفسجية ب، ومرتين يوميًا في الأيام التي لا يوجد بها جلسة علاج، واستمر ذلك لعشرين جلسة، وتم علاج الذراع اليمنى بالأشعة فوق البنفسجية ب فقط.
أشارت هذه النتائج إلى بداية ظهور الإحمرار في الذراع اليسرى لدى نحو نصف المصابين بعد ثلاث جلسات علاج، وظهوره لدى النصف الآخر بعد ثلاث إلى خمس جلسات علاج، كما بدأت عملية إعادة التصبغ لدى مصاب واحد بعد ثلاث جلسات، وخلال ثلاث إلى أربع جلسات لدى خمسة مصابين، وبعد خمس جلسات علاج لدى الأربع مصابين المتبقيين، كما اختلفت طريقت إعادة التصبغ من شخص لآخر، ومن هذه الدراسة تبين أن إضافة زيت الزيتون لجلسات علاج الأشعة فوق البنفسجية يسرع من عملية إعادة التصبغ، وتحسين شكل البشرة.

الكركم من الوصفات الطبيعية المفيدة لعلاج البهاق، ويتم استخدام الكركم في علاج البهاق عن طريق خلط القليل من الكركم مع زيت الخردل، ووضعه على المنطقة المصابة لمدة 20 دقيقة في كل جلسة.
