- تم الاعتراف رسميًا من قبل الفيفا بمباراة الاتحاد لكرة القدم لعام 1872 بين المنتخبين الوطنيين لأسكتلندا وإنجلترا، كأول مباراة دولية على الإطلاق في رياضة كرة القدم.
- أقيمت في 30 نوفمبر 1872 في هاميلتون كريسنت، ملعب غرب اسكتلندا للكريكيت في بارتيك، غلاسكو.

- أول من بدء بممارسة لعبة كرة القدم هم الصينيون، حيث كانوا يقيمون لعبة كرة القدم في المناسبات العامة و الأعياد.
- و يقيمون الولائم الفريق الذي يحقق أكثر اهداف.
- تطورت هذه اللعبة على مر السنين إلى العديد من الرياضات المختلفة، مثل كرة القدم وكرة القدم الأسترالية (الرجبي) وكرة القدم الأمريكية.
- تعد أول مباراة رسمية لكرة القدم على الإطلاق في 1860، تأسس نادي شيفيلد في أكتوبر 1857، وقد تم الاعتراف به من قبل الفيفا باعتباره أقدم نادي كرة قدم في العالم.
